Skytec provides assessment services to assist building owners in getting to know their buildings better, as well as prepare for seismic strengthening. We have worked with building owners and heritage consultants to preserve built heritage and we also carry out Detailed Engineering Evaluation (DEE)/Detailed Seismic Assessment (DSA) for a wide range of building stock including commercial, residential and heritage buildings.
Skytec carries out CPT (core penetration testing) down to 20 metres, ground permitting. Skytec also carry out SPT (standard penetration testing) and collect disturbed and undisturbed sampling in the ground. The undisturbed samples can then be tested in laboratories. We have carried out ground drilling in hard to reach places on hillsides and level sections.
Strengthening of heritage buildings
Skytec understands the importance of natural and physical (built) heritage to communities. It has worked with different stakeholders including building owners and local authorities to preserve heritage. Sensitive engineering techniques are Skytec's specialty, in which invisibility and simplicity are key concepts to achieving long-term outcomes for retaining heritage elements and fabric.
Skytec has developed Build-Sure™, a unique process created from scientifically proven advanced technology and through natural disaster experiences globally, with a focus on the consequences to communities of such events. Skytec has endorsed the Build-Sure™ approach because it acts to reduce risk, both before disaster strikes and post-disaster (by improving responses to impacts).
It includes specialist advice and engineering services (testings, structural and geotechnical investigations which guarantee cost effective seismic concepts) - to support the retention of new or older buildings and areas of importance.
Slope stability and retaining wall analysis & design
Skytec regularly carries out retaining wall designs for conditions ranging from civil/infrastructure to domestic projects. We have the in-house capability to design for complicated ground conditions and high loadings.
Invasive/Non-Invasive testing services
Skytec has the gear and in-house expertise to carry out invasive investigations of residential to commercial buildings. We're able to carry out concrete cutting and coring up to 400 mm diameter. Skytec can also provide non-destructive testing services for concrete, masonry and timber structures to help with the condition assessment of the material in question.
Please call us to discuss your requirements and we will be happy to tailor a testing package that addresses them.
Seismic Risk Advisory Services - Local and Central Government
Skytec continues to provide seismic engineering advice at a government level, after representing New Zealand (as an advisor) to the Indonesian government in the wake of the Padang earthquake. This advice extended to building assessments of damaged government buildings and recommended repairs and/or demolition depending on the severity of the damage. Skytec currently advises and assists local authorities in implementing earthquake prone building policies through the development of robust systems.
Heritage-Sure™ is a unique process developed through natural disaster experience in New Zealand and around the world. It was created with a focus on the consequences to communities of such events. Based on best practice research Skytec has endorsed the Heritage-Sure™ approach because it acts to reduce risk, both before disaster strikes and post-disaster (by improving responses to impacts).
It includes specialist advice and engineering services (testings, structural and geotechnical investigations which guarantee cost effective seismic concepts) - in order to support the retention of heritage buildings and areas of importance to communities. Additionally Heritage-Sure™ can be tailored to suit different stakeholder needs.
Building Verticality & Floor Level Survey
Skytec has the capability to carry out a full survey of building structures and assess it for its vertical and horizontal level. This type of survey is crucial in assisting building asset owners, engineers, architects, insurers and builders to identify problem areas where the structure may be leaning from the vertical or rotating as a result of foundation and/or structural issues.
Skytec can carry out feasibility studies for projects that will investigate and recommend the best value for money option to enable stakeholders make informed decisions.
